LeRoy Neiman has been described as the most popular living painter in America. Probably best known as a portrayer of sporting and social events, he virtually invented the modern genre of sports art. For S.T. Dupont, Neiman drew about a dozen sketches of a golfer swinging a club. The most powerful sketch was combined with Neiman's signature band of three rings of Chines lacquer in graduated shades of green representing the grass color on the tee, fairway and green.
